County was founded on October 1, 1812
Saint Louis County was a part of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. It was transferred, as part of French Louisiana, to the United States on October 1, 1804. On October 1, 1812, the District of St. Louis was renamed St. Louis County (exactly eight years after its establishment).
Saint Louis County is often divided into Mid, North, West, and South sections. Mid County is made up of the central and eastern portion of St. Louis County.
The city of Pasadena Hills in the North County, is second to Olympia Fields, Illinois as the most affluent majority-black community north of the Mason–Dixon line.
